CRI Launches Partnership with Greek Radio Channel

Xinhua: China Radio International (CRI) and Greek 93.2 Happy Radio channel officially launched on Tuesday a partnership for a daily ten-hour transmission of programs about China and Chinese culture in Greece.
Starting from June 1 this year, the state-run Chinese radio broadcaster begun providing the Greek channel with a wide range of informative and entertainment material for the production of programming broadcast in Greek for Attica prefecture's five million residents every day.

Broadband access rising steadily in Greece

Broadband service access in Greece reached 19.9 pct of the population at the end of 2010, namely, 2,252,653 connections, the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) announced on Monday.
EETT, in a report, stressed that despite the fact that broadband access grew by 2.9 lines per 100 inhabitants (down from 3.58 in the previous year), Greece was the second most rapidly growing European state in mid-2010, with a growth rate double the European average.

Statement by the European Union

The European Union is troubled by accounts of foreign journalists being detained without explanation and being physically intimidated or assaulted in Beijing on Sunday 27th February 2011. 
We urge the Chinese authorities to respect the rights of foreign journalists to report freely in China according to the relevant laws and regulations, and also to ensure their physical safety while carrying out their work.

PM at SGC-SGI Conference

Addressing a one-day conference at the Secretariat-General of Communication and Information (SGC-SGI), Prime Minister George Papandreou sent a clear message stressing that “Greece is changing and will continue to be changing.” “The key factor to this effort is the civil servants, the qualifications and skills of which consist national wealth for the country” said Papandreou, noting that “only a state that respects and utilizes its human resources is a functional and effective state.”

Media & People with Disabilities

Addressing an international conference "Media & people with disabilities," Deputy Minister of Interior and Government Spokesman George Petalotis spoke about the initiatives already in place concerning disabled people’s access to Greek media (television programmes in sign language, special software for internet access, media’s code of conduct, etc.).
The Ministry of Interior offers a special service with guiding tools for people with disabilities.

PM urges int'l media at NEWSXCHANGE conference: Tell the whole story

PM George Papandreou on Thursday urged international media to "tell the whole story" about what is happening in Greece, addressing the 2010 NEWSXCHANGE conference that opened in Athens, organised by international media organisations under the aegis of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in collaboration with the Greek state broadcasting foundation ERT. In the past few months, the information media inflated the existing problems, while several of them engaged in unfair criticism of the Greek people, thus contributing to the creation of negative stereotypes, Papandreou said.

Seminar on regional media, targeted actions

A day seminar on Greek contemporary news-Targeted actions opened Tuesday, organised by the communications and information general secretariats, for the mass media of the Eastern Macedonia-Thrace periphery. Opening the event, government spokesman George Petalotis said the event was organised so that the journalists and staff of the Periphery's media and the government may open a channel of communication, that will be to the benefit of the Greek citizens. He said the event was the first in a pilot program launched by the two general secretariats.

PM Karamanlis sends message to Audiovisual Archives conference

Communication and Information Secretary General Maria Papada conveyed a message by Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis at the inauguration of the 40th Annual Conference of the International Union of Sound and Audiovisual Archives at the Zappion Mansion on Sunday in which he stressed that "in a country with history and culture, the preservation and dissemination of memory is of special importance. Equally great is the importance of creating structures and infrastructures that will facilitate this development, as well as the provision and utilisation of resources in this direction."
